The LA Times Features Beyond the Bayou’s Cajun Adventures!
We are thrilled that the LA Times featured our Cajun Tours in their Travel Section. Author Ann Harnagel covers some of the amazing activities we offer on our 4 day “Ultimate Cajun Country Adventure”. Take a look at the article here!
Unique Activities
We spent years scouting out activities that feature the best of Cajun Country. We take great pride in sharing the sights, sounds, and flavors that make this region so special. The nature, culture and colorful personalities of Acadiana are on full display, and will send you home with memories of unforgettable experiences that you can only find with Gondwana Ecotours!
Fun & Friendly Local Guides
One of the biggest reasons we love living in Louisiana is because there are so many great characters here. Our guides are born and raised here in Cajun Country, so they are the perfect folks to tell you about the Louisiana lifestyle. Chef David can entertain you with stories of growing up on his grandparent’s farm while he teaches you how to make specialties like jambalaya, etouffee, and gumbo. Learn how the Guidry family got into organic pecan farming and meet their sheep and chickens. Hang in the music studio with the legendary Nathan Williams (see his music here!) to hear about how he started off his career with Buckwheat Zydeco and has spent the last thirty years touring the world sharing this unique genre and raising his musical family. Captain Sean will tell you what it was like growing up in the swamp, and watch as he lures creatures close to the boat so you can get the perfect photograph! Our guides at Whitney Plantation will tell you all about how sugar cane was farmed and processed, the slaves who lived there and read their stories about what life was like there over 200 years ago.
Incredible Locations
We visit the most scenic locations in the area, including the incredible Lake Martin swamp, where migratory birds like Roseate Spoonbills and Woodstorks fly overhead and Ospreys, Owls and Eagles nest in the trees. Paddle the historic Bayou Teche waterway, where battles were fought and fur traders in the 1700’s sold their pelts. The Jungle Gardens at the Avery Island Tabasco Plantation are out of this world, filled with exotic flora and fauna that make for great photographs.
Ultimate Comfort and Convenience
The locations where we stay are charming, quiet and provide all the luxury you need for a relaxing getaway. Whether you want to eat a homemade brunch in the sunroom, relax with a book on the deck or paddle out on a private pond to go fishing, we have the perfect spot for you. Choose a historic colonial on the outskirts of Lafayette or a serene lakefront cottage at the end of a country road. The hospitality is top notch, the rooms are cozy and you will wake up feeling refreshed and ready for the next adventure.
